Travel documents
For an up to three-month stay in Macedonia, a valid passport is all you need if you come from Europe, most of the American countries, Japan… (please check our list). Furthermore, there is a list of countries whose citizens can enter Macedonia by presenting their identity cards. Visa issuing points
Entry visas for Macedonia are issued by the embassies and consulates of the Republic of Macedonia. Only in exceptional cases can visas be obtained at the Macedonia's international border crossings.
Children must be registered in the passport of one of their parents or have their own passport. The loss of the passport or any other identification document must be immediately reported to the nearest police office. They will issue an official notification of the loss in order to enable you to obtain a new travel document. Pets are not subject to compulsory quarantine, but they must be properly vaccinated (against rabies) and have confirmation on that.
Traveling by plane
You have scheduled flights to the capital Skopje from almost all international airports, where you can transfer to inland by a car, or to the Ohrid airport. Macedonian Airlines and several international airliners (Croatia Airlines, Adria Airways, Austrian Airlines, JAT Airways, MALEV Airlines, Macedonian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, CZECH Airlines, Alitalia) fly to Skopje daily. During the peak season, the number of flights is increased and a number of charter flights are offered to the most important tourist destinations. Macedonia Airlines has scheduled international flights for: Amsterdam, Belgrade, Berlin, Budapest, Vienna, Düsseldorf, Zagreb, Istanbul, Copenhagen, Ljubljana, Milan, Paris, Prague, Rome, Split, Hamburg, and Zurich.
There is unfortunately no airport shuttle bus yet in Skopje, which means travelers are obliged to take a taxi for the 17 km (10.2 m) trip to Skopje. This costs around 20 euros.

Traveling by train
There is a railway network connecting almost all major Macedonian cities except Ohrid. There are direct lines to Slovenia, Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro, and Greece. An east-west railway to connect Bulgaria with Macedonia is at present under construction. There are indirect lines to almost all other European countries.
There aren’t any international train services that operate in Macedonia and the trains are local and they can be classified like: Motor train, electro-motor train, Fast, Express and passenger train.

Traveling by bus
There are regular international buses connecting Macedonia with Austria, Germany, Serbia, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Slovenia, Denmark, Romania, Montenegro, Croatia, Turkey, and Albania. The cheapest way to travel to Macedonia from central Europe is by bus, and it's not as uncomfortable as might seem.
Macedonia itself has a good national bus network that will take you to any part of the country even to the smallest village.

Traveling by car
During the summer months traffic at the borders is a bit heavier, and that can cause some delay. To enter and drive in Macedonia, you will require a green insurance card and valid national or international driving permit.
Fuel: Petrol stations in big towns and cities as well as on important roads are open non-stop, otherwise the working hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Lead-free petrol, called bezoloven (green label) and diesel is available on all petrol stations. A toll is payable on motorways.
Regulations: Traffic drives on the right. Speed limits are 120km/h (75mph) on motorways, 80km/h (50mph) on dual carriageways, 50kph (31mph) in built-up areas and 80kph (50mph) outside built-up areas. The amount of the fine depends on the extent of the infraction committed. Blood/alcohol limit is 0.5 ppm.
Accidents must be reported to the police (Policija) immediately. Police emergency number is 192.

Roads & motorways in Macedonia:
The moment situation of the length of the road network in Macedonia is 10.600 km. The 6.830km or 64,5% are local roads, 2.820 km or 26,5% are regional roads and 950 km or 9% are Motorways. The length of the modern roads in Macedonia is 5.100 km.
The most important Motorway is international Motorways No. E75. It starts in Oostend – Belgium, and goes thru Brussels, Nierenberg, Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade, Skopje, Thessalonica to Athens, Greece. Total length in Macedonia is 201 km. It goes thru the central part of Macedonia, alongside with the river Vardar and it’s the main artery of the road network in Macedonia.
The pay toll is charged according to the distance of the section traveled and according to the vehicle type. Payments at the tollbooths can be made in cash in MK Denars, or in Euros.
